AWARE Services
AWARE provides a
variety of prevention and intervention services for women and children impacted
by
domestic violence and/or sexual assault, as well as to raise community awareness
regarding these issues. All advocacy services are
confidential and free of charge.

- Emergency Shelter
-
AWARE provides safe shelter to women and children who have had to
leave home or relocate due to domestic violence, sexual assault and/or child
abuse.
If you need emergency shelter, please call 586-1090 to speak with an
advocate.

- Crisis Intervention
-
Trained AWARE advocates answer a 24-hour crisis line (586-1090 in Juneau,
1-800-478-1090 toll-free in Alaska) for victims of domestic violence and/or
sexual assault. We are also available on-call to accompany women
during sexual assault forensic exams and other medical emergencies.

- Advocacy

- AWARE advocates have been trained to respond to
domestic violence and sexual assault emergencies to provide support and

- Community Education
-
AWARE offers educational presentations to local school and
community agencies. Please call AWARE at 586-6623 to request a
presentation at your school or agency. An AWARE advocate can present
on domestic violence, sexual assault, AWARE services, safe/unsafe touch,
and/or other related topics. We will adjust our presentation to fit
the audience (children, teens or adults).

- Legal Advocacy

AWARE's advocates are not lawyers, but we can assist you in filing
for a protective order. We can also point you to useful
information about child custody information. Please

- Rural Outreach

AWARE provides crisis
intervention, advocacy, education and support services in Elfin Cove,
Gustavus, Haines, Hoonah, Klukwan, Pelican, Skagway, Tenakee Springs and

- Education and Support Groups
-
AWARE staff facilitate weekly education and support groups for
women and children. Women and children do not need to be current
residents of AWARE to attend. All groups are confidential and free of
charge. Childcare is provided. Please click

- Children's Counseling
-
AWARE provides individual counseling to child victims of sexual
assault and/or domestic violence. This counseling is provided free of
charge. For more information, please call 586-6623 and ask for the
children's counselor.
- TRAIN

TRAIN stands for Teens Resisting Abuse and Initiating Non-violence.
This program has provided training to teens in Juneau about domestic
violence, sexual assault, teen dating violence, and conflict resolution.
Some of those teens now provide peer education for other youth in Juneau. Teens may also call
our crisis line (586-1090) any other time to talk with adult advocates.

prevention program, funded by the Centers for Disease Control and

- Juneau Batterer Accountability Program (JBAP)

AWARE coordinates the Juneau Batterer Accountability Program (JBAP).
JBAP is a 48-session program for male perpetrators of domestic violence.
