Women of Distinction(WOD)

 Women of Distinction Event
The objective of WOD is to:
  • Celebrate women of distinction in our community;
  • Recognize women whose work (paid and/or volunteer) has benefited the lives of women and children in Juneau;
  • Honor unsung heroes of the community, as well as those with publicly recognized achievement;
  • Support and encourage community members and groups to recognize women of distinction within their organizations; and
  • Raise funds to support AWARE's work with victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.
Extraordinary women make a difference in our community every day. Some are well known around town while others are quiet, unsung sheroes. Yet they all give their time, effort and energy, making Juneau a better place for everyone to live. Each year friends, families and community supporters gather to honor four local sheroes at a gala dinner event. In March, during Women's History Month, AWARE will be hosting our annual Women of Distinction awards dinner, and we are once again asking for nominations from the community.

A nominee's accomplishments do not have to be related to domestic violence; rather we are looking for women who have worked to benefit the lives of women and children in Juneau. We know there are many deserving women among our friends and neighbors, and we need your help identifying them! Please provide us with the requested information on the enclosed nomination form and return it to AWARE by Monday, October 4th, 5 pm and help us select the four women to be honored.

It is heartwarming and inspiring to hear from the four women at this sell-out event, which this year will be held at Centennial Hall. Even if you aren't submitting a nomination, be sure to mark your calendar and watch for more information on this festive event. It's an evening you won't want to miss!

AWARE's 2012 Women of Distinction Gala will take place March 3rd!

  • Demonstrated Commitment: Candidate has demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of life for women and children in Juneau.
  • Integrity, Dedication, Motivation: Candidate has demonstrated qualities of integrity, dedication, motivation and leadership in the community.

  • Willingness to Share Skills & Knowledge: Candidate has demonstrated the willingness to share her skills and knowledge.

  • Role Model: Candidate has demonstrated qualities of a role model.

  • Supports Diversity: Candidate's work has represented and/or supported diverse groups within our community.
